Welcome the warmth of summer with a fresh perspective on timeless interiors. At Abbey Duncan Design, we’re all about layering textures and finishes that evoke both serenity and intention—especially in the Texas heat. Our newest seasonal mood board brings that vision to life with earthy neutrals, sun-washed tones, and breathable materials that feel as relaxed as a Hill Country breeze.

A Natural Take on Summer Style
This summer’s palette leans into subtle sun-kissed warmth. Think soft terracotta tiles, sage green accents, and breezy woven cane—all paired with finishes like plaster, oak, and linen that naturally reflect light and create a cool, grounded energy.
Each material on this board was selected to represent the balance between form and function:
Sun-washed terracotta introduces warmth without overpowering a space.
Brushed brass hardware adds a hint of understated shine.
Plaster and oak samples ground the design with rustic charm and character.
Natural linen and boucle fabrics offer softness and contrast with tactile appeal.
Woven cane invites airflow and texture into cabinetry or furniture pieces.

Design Tips Inspired by the Board
1. Let Materials Speak Instead of bold patterns or bright colors, lean into natural finishes. Rough plaster walls, oiled oak cabinetry, or a curved cane-backed bench can carry a room with simplicity and strength.
2. Soften with Texture When your palette is neutral, texture becomes the star. Boucle upholstery, a vintage linen throw, or a handmade ceramic can turn a quiet color scheme into something deeply dimensional.
3. Reflect the Season, Not Just the Trend Designing for summer doesn’t mean leaning on clichés. Bring the outdoors in through airy fabrics, nature-inspired tones, and materials that feel authentic to your home’s setting—especially if you’re out here in Texas ranch country.
4. Use Brass as a Bridging Element Brass works across styles—vintage, modern, farmhouse, or coastal. A little gleam in cabinet hardware, light fixtures, or mirror frames can elevate your look while keeping it cohesive.
5. Think Cool, Not Cold Use natural textures and warm undertones to keep spaces cool in temperature but not sterile in feel. This is especially useful when designing rooms that get lots of sun.
